As flooding continues on the Mississippi River, there's plenty of water, but you can't drink it. So the local Red Cross is helping out an East Moline neighborhood.
Spokeswoman Pat D'Allesandro says a majority of the homes on Campbell's Island get their water from wells.
"It's not drinkable at this point, so we're providing drinking water for them," said D'Allesandro. "We've been working with the Rock Island County Emergency Management on that. We'll continue to provide water to them until they can get their wells checked and taken care of."
The floodwater on Campbell's Island has started to recede. And D'Allesandro says some people are beginning the long process of cleaning out their homes.
The Red Cross of the Quad Cities will hand out bottled water at the Campbell's Island Fire Station starting Friday, April 19th from 3 to 6 p.m. , and then Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week.
