Nearly 160 years after it first opened in the Quad Cities, the YMCA is having a huge impact here. That was the message Wednesday from officials of the Scott County Family Y based in Davenport and the Two Rivers YMCA in Moline.
Frank Klipsch, from the Scott County Family Y, says together the two organizations serve about 90,000 people, or one-quarter of the population.
"And that's at 50 locations, including not only our branch facilities, but also our after school and before schools sites, our learning centers, our partnerships with high schools for some of the mentoring programs we're doing."
In addition, about 20 per cent of Y members in the Quad Cities receive financial assistance, totaling more than 2.5 million dollars.
The two YMCA's also receive help from 25-hundred volunteers.
