Immigrants who've become American citizens will be honored this weekend. The Quad Cities Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees will host a US Citizenship Honor Dinner on Saturday at the Mosque in Bettendorf.
Alliance board member, Bob Babcock, says he was inspired to organize the event after attending naturalization ceremonies last year.
And at a time when many Americans don't bother to turn out on election day, he says one of the first things these new citizens do is register to vote.
The keynote speaker for the Honor Dinner will be a native of China named Ying Sa. She's an accountant with offices in Iowa City and Des Moines.

Babcock's goal is to "warmly welcome and embrace people who truly appreciate this country."
