The Rock Island County Board hopes to save money by paying a lower interest rate and managing its own nursing home. Tuesday night, it approved a couple of measures concerning Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.

County Administrator Dave Ross says the debt on the nursing home will be re-financed at a lower interest rate.

Also Tuesday night, Rock Island board members voted to end the current contract with the private company it hired to manage Hope Creek. Ross says that's very expensive.

So now the county will hire a nursing home administrator who will report to the county administrator.

Ross says re-financing the bonds will save taxpayers 700-thousand dollars, and the additional savings from changing the management of Hope Creek will save millions more over the years.
