The Bettendorf Public Library is open again after awater leak caused it to shut down for a week.
The library's main entrance is closed for repairs, so people have to go in through the back. But inside, Director Sue Mannix says most of the library is still intact and ready for visitors.
Most of the damage happened in administrative offices, meeting rooms and the main entrance.
There will be an emergency city council meeting Tuesday night to hear bids from contractors. Bill Connors, Bettendorf Community Development Director, estimates repairs will cost about $250,000, which is down from an earlier estimate of $1 million.
The repairs should be covered by insurance — not taxpayer dollars.
The library's summer programs will move to Bettendorf High School. However, preschool story time and some programs for the youngest patrons will remain at the library. The library's website has a full schedule with locations.
Dewey's Cafe wasn't damaged, but remains closed because repairs will block the entrance.
