Rock Island Grand Prix

The world's largest street kart race is back in the Quad Cities this weekend, with some changes to the schedule. The 21st annual Rock Island Grand Prix begins on Saturday, and will have two full days of racing for the first time.

Roger Ruthhart, president of the organizing committee, says normally on Saturday, racers are timed, and try to drive fast enough to qualify for a starting position on Sunday.

But this year, there will be actual races on Saturday, and those results will determine where they start in the final races on Sunday.
This year, there will also be Vintage Kart Racing for the first time. Ruthhart says drivers will race karts from the 1950s through the 80s.

He says the technology in karts has changed a lot.

He says 250 drivers will compete in 15 different races. And, there's a lot of other activities happening at the same time, including a car show, army display, and kids' fun area.

The Rock Island Grand Prix is free to attend.
