Putnam Museum Study Begins

How to strengthen its finances, and better serve the public - those are the goals of a new study now underway for the Putnam Museum in Davenport.

President and ceo, Kim Findlay, says the board of trustees is working with an international museum consultant, plus a local business consulting firm and market research firm to help the Putnam plan its future.
Alternatives could include some sort of taxpayer support, a capital campaign, and even moving to a new location.

Findlay says the museum has increased its fundraising from private sources 600 per cent in the last eight years, while operating with a staff that's less than half the size it had 10-15 years ago.

Included among the 150,000 visitors a year to the Putnam Museum are 30 to 35,000 school children.

Findlay says the study should be done in October.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
