A new program to help people leave poverty will start soon in the Quad Cities. Sponsored by the United Way, the Opportunities for Quad Citians Committee, will train 100 people tomorrow, called "navigators" to work one-on-one with the less fortunate.
Committee member Liz Dierolf (DEER-off) from Skip-a-Long Family and Community Services says the navigators will learn how to work with the clients, called "neighbors."
The new program is based on the Opportunity Community Model that's now working successfully in several other locations across the country.

The navigator workshop will be held tomorrow morning at the Freight House in Davenport.
Then at a conference in April, each navigator will be matched with a "neighbor" and try to help them solve some of the problems that keep them in poverty.
