Augustana College, athletic director. Mike Zapolsky is a member of a new sports advisory group. One of Visit Quad Cities' goals is to attract even more sports competitions.

He says the agency is, "trying to identify potential, possible opportunities to leverage the Quad Cities to be in a better position to host these types of events whether they're regional or national. And ultimately at the end of the day, you know, bring together various governmental leaders as it relates to funding. I think it's safe to say that they're looking for ways that they can have additional budgetary dollars to be more proactive."

Zapolski also says the reorganized sports commission should help St. Ambrose University and Augustana College bid on NAIA and NCAA tournaments and competitions.

Visit Quad Cities says sporting events held here have an annual, local economic impact of nearly $60 million. The commission was created in 1995.
