New Photo Project Will Highlight Davenport Families

WVIK News

A local nonprofit will celebrate Davenport neighborhoods by unveiling a new, public work of art.

Together Making a Better Community will host a reception Saturday at the Lincoln Center, a former school on East 7th Street.

Tracy Singleton, Executive Director of the Lincoln Center, says the group worked with "Alt Space Chicago" which took photos of Davenport residents. They will be the focus of the artwork.

She says it'll bring new light to Davenport.

"You start changing the narrative about what a neighborhood is, and what a community could be. And you start to imagine the re-imagining of that particular neighborhood.

Singleton says the event fits right into the mission of the Lincoln Center.

"Our goal is to be the hub for the African American community here in the Quad Cities. So, events, resources, services, programs, all of that for the Black community happens out of here."

The unveiling is scheduled for Saturday from one to four PM, with free refreshments from Black owned restaurants.
