John Deere is expanding opportunities for active duty service members to learn new skills and get civilian jobs.

Its new program and partnership is for soldiers who will join the Army Reserves.

This partnership not only helps our soldiers and their families at a critical stage in life but will also support growth within our local communities and business.
David Ottavianelli

In 2020, Deere and Company joined the Department of Defense's SkillBridge program. It provides training to members of the military who are leaving service and plan to get jobs in the private sector.

David Ottavianelli is the director of workforce and community development at Deere World Headquarters in Moline. He says the new agreement is with the Army Reserve Private Public Partnership Office.

Over the last couple of years, Deere has helped train 180 active duty soldiers who now work for the company or its dealerships.

SkillBridge interns have learned skills valuable for working in Deere factories and at dealerships plus other skills for careers in management, logistics, IT, data analytics, human resources, the law, and accounting.

Reserve members facing unemployment rates two to three times the national average, the internship allows veterans to receive on the ground training and industry education which can support overall mission readiness goals and enhance financial stability, as well as make them a better candidate for open positions.
David Ottavianelli

Ottavianelli invites all veterans, members of the guard and reserves, and active duty service members to learn more about Deere and its military hiring programs.
