The state is giving a boost to a special needs ball field and playground in Dubuque. Last week, the Enhance Iowa Board approved a $500,000 Community and Tourism grant for the Miracle League of Dubuque project.

Board President, Merle Santjer, says research shows it'll attract at least 30,000 people from Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. And children have already been asking him when they'll be able to come and play ball.

Both the ball field and all-inclusive playground will feature rubberized surfaces to provide safety for everyone. And Santjer says the Miracle League's motto is, "Let's play together."

Over the last several years, individuals and organizations have donated more than $3 million. The total cost will be about $3.6 million, including a building with fully accessible concessions, classrooms, and restrooms.

The Miracle League ball field will be built in the City of Dubuque's Veterans Memorial Park.
