Quad Cities International Airport spokeswoman Ashleigh Johnston says when air travel plummeted due to the pandemic, Delta suspended flights to and from Detroit and Minneapolis, but continued flying from here to Atlanta.
"Not every airport was so fortunate. We know of some other airports our size that lost Delta service entirely. So we do think it still points to positive momentum and a positive trajectory toward recovery that we have Delta service and we were able to maintain another one of our pre-pandemic routes."
There's no word though on when, or if, Delta will resume flights between here and Detroit.
Still, she's optimistic in general about airline service to the Quad Cities.
"And a lot of it has been dictated so far by what states have fewer or more restrictions because that's where people seem to be heading. So as more and more states, or vacation destinations continue to loosen restrictions, we may start to see the playing field evening out a little bit."
Johnston says before the pandemic, the Quad Cities airport offered flights to 11 different destinations, with Allegiant, American, United, and Delta. With the restored service to Minneapolis, this weekend, it'll connect with ten.
