Owners of electric cars can now charge them at the world's largest truck stop.Delia Meier is one of the owners of the Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott. She says a new transformer was installed a few years ago, and the two, new fast chargers were installed last month.
Meier says the first customer to use the new station spent $6.71 to charge their electric vehicle, or EV. It takes about 30 minutes for an 80% charge.
The EV charging station and installation cost about $210,000, but the state reimbursed the truck stop $180,000. Meier says the funds came from a state legal settlement with Volkswagen.
By the way, last year, the Iowa 80 Truckstop had to cancel its annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree. But this year, Meier and her staff are busy planning to hold it July 8th through the 10th.
