During Monday's strong thunderstorm, a fallen tree branch landed on electrical wires along 38th Street in Rock Island, IL. WVIK FM Operations Manager, Dave Garner, was watching from the radio station across the street when the transformer "popped" and ignited.
Augustana College security closed the street because of the fire and a downed power line. Avoid driving on 38th Street near 8th Avenue until a crew clears it.
The radio station was off the air for several hours Monday afternoon until Garner got a generator to start up to provide power.
