Public safety, hiring a new city administrator, and balancing next year's budget. Those were just a few of the topics Davenport Mayor Frank Klipsch talked about this morning during a news conference.

The theme of his "media briefing" seemed to be "maximizing Davenport's resources, while minimizing cost." And first on the list was the public transit system, which Klipsch says costs the city $6.5 million each year. And there's currently a half-million-dollar deficit.

He says a new committee is working on the problem.
Klipsch also gave an update on next year's budget. He says Davenport will have a 2.5 percent increase in expenses, with only half-a-million in additional revenue. That leaves the city with a possible deficit of one-million-dollars.

He says there's a plan in place to fix the budget without raising taxes.

Along with the need for budget cuts, Klipsch also delivered what he calls "good news." He says Davenport is committed to spending $28 million on streets, sewer, and water projects next year. That includes $3 million for Rockingham Road and over $6 million for Brady Street.
