After seven years, some residents of Moline have given up their long fight to save the old railroad depot. This week, the city is expected officially to sell the 115 year old building to the Illinois Department of Transportation, with demolition probably in the spring.
Craig Sommers, vice president of the Moline Preservation Society, says it was built in 1900, and was the last "surviving" depot in the city.
And even though they couldn't save the building, Sommers says society members have been able save a few parts.

He hopes the contractor will allow them to salvage the terra cotta stonework that was around the clock, along with some other items.
The depot will be torn down to make way for the new I-74 bridge.
