First Communities under Attack program
Quad City Federation of Labor

Local residents have a chance to learn why and how state budget cuts are made in Illinois and Iowa. Tonight, the Quad City Federation of Labor is hosting a free program, called "Communities under Attack," at the King Center in Rock Island.

Community Services Liaison, Joshua Schipp, says the first part of the program was held in May, and focused on the history of labor and economic policies. And tonight's program will deal with present-day labor issues.
Local officials will explain state policies, and representatives from labor unions and service agencies will talk about how they've been affected by recent budget cuts. Then, a Johnson County supervisor will talk about the county's minimum wage increase.

And, Schipp says it will be a chance for everyone in the community to come together and share their stories.

He says it's a chance for residents to stand together and voice their concerns.

He says 75 people came out for the first part of the program. And the Quad Cities Federation of Labor expects up to 100 people at the "Communities under Attack" event tonight.

The program is from 5 to 7:30 pm, and includes free dinner.
