Rock Island will soon take steps to preserve some of its oldest properties. Last week, the city council agreed to hire a consulting firm, to create a city-wide preservation plan.
Assistant City Manager, Jeff Eder, says Rock Island received a 21,000 dollar grant from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. And, the firm Lakota Group, based in Chicago, will start by taking an inventory of historic properties.
Lakota Group will also consider economic development initiatives, and ways to fund future preservation projects.
Eder says the City of Rock Island could begin implementing the historical preservation plan in 9 months.
