A Vest for Cairo

Cairo, Galesburg's K-9 officer
Galesburg Police Department

A police dog in Galesburg will soon wear the same protection as human officers. Later this summer, Cairo will receive a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to a donation from a national organization, Vested Interest in K9s.

With private and corporate donations, Vested Interest in K9s has provided nearly 2,000 vests to canine officers across the country.
The vests are made by Armor Express, and cost about 1,000 dollars each.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
