Pothole Filling Begins in Earnest

This week, Davenport crews are filling potholes. And the city is asking drivers and residents to report potholes they encounter in streets and alleys.

Public Works Director, Mike Clarke, says usually only one crew is assigned to patch streets and alleys. But starting today, ten crews are implementing what he calls the "Pothole Fill Plan."
Third Ward Alderman, Bill Boom, encourages people to report potholes in the "Action Center" on the city's website.

To report potholes, residents and drivers may also call Davenport City Hall or the public works department.

Mayor Bill Gluba is also asking drivers to keep safety in mind and give city workers plenty of space.

Clarke says his employees have already filled more than 12,000 potholes over the last two weeks. When the crews complete temporary patching at the end of the week, they'll start the long process of repairing them permanently.

Street sweepers are following the same routes after the potholes are filled to clean up all the mud, leaves, and litter that accumulated over the winter.
