Mississippi Finally Below Flood Stage

Thursday morning in the Quad Cities
National Weather Service

Two weeks after it crested in the Quad Cities, the Mississippi River has finally fallen below flood stage. The National Weather Service says Thursday morning it measured two-tenths of a foot below flood stage, and it will continue to fall.

The river crested here on April 11th and 12th at three feet over flood stage.

It was above flood stage for about five weeks, or 35 days, compared with last year when it was over flood stage in the Quad Cities for 96 days, and over what's considered major flood stage for 51 days.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
