Ice Jam Causes Rock River Flooding

Rock River at Joslin, 12.26.16
National Weather Service

The combination of rain, warm temperatures, and ice jams means flooding is possible along the Rock River. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Rock, near Joslin, which is upstream from the Quad Cities.

Monday morning, the river was at two-tenths of a foot over flood stage, with minor flooding occurring.
But the Rock could reach 1 1/2 feet over flood stage by Thursday morning, then begin to fall.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
