Augustana Students Hang Shoes for Paris Climate Talk Protestors

When a rally outside the Climate Talks in Paris was canceled due to security threats, marchers left over 10,000 pairs of shoes in the area to silently protest for them. Today, students at Augustana College joined protestors around the world and displayed dozens of shoes in solidarity, to demonstrate the urgency of climate change.

Emily Stanevicius is the president of the environmental group, Global Affect. She wants students and faculty to see the shoes hanging on the stairway and realize there are ways to improve climate change right on campus. 
She says younger generations play an especially important role in improving the environment. 

Global Affect plans to start a petition so administrators will start making small changes on campus to reduce Augustana's carbon footprint. Stanevicius says an easy suggestion is replacing paper towel dispensers in bathrooms with hand dryers.
