An outdoor museum now belongs to a local college. Today, Clinton Community College celebrated the donation of the 14-acre Bickelhaupt  Arboretum.

College President Karen Vickers hopes plans for how the arboretum will be used will be completed by this summer.

Robert and Francis Bickelhaupt decided to give the 45-year old arboretum to the college last March.

Clinton Community College has partnered with the arboretum in the past, offering programs and classes for the community. The arboretum is still free and open to the public year-round.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
