A home in the Quad Cities will be one of the featured sites this weekend, during the annual Illinois Solar Tour. Each year the Illinois Solar Energy Association sponsors the event to educate, and advocate, for solar, and other renewable forms of energy.
Executive director, Lesley McCain, says open houses will be held at homes and businesses across the state.
With advances in technology, and more suppliers, McCain says the cost of installing renewable energy equipment is dropping quickly.
One of the open houses will be held in Moline, at the home of Brian and Lindsay Prybil. Last year, he bought 52 solar panels at Lowe's and put them on the roof of their home, and he says the results so far are "impressive."

And on sunny days, the excess power generated at his home goes back to the grid for other customers of MidAmerican Energy.
The open house at the Prybils, and other sites for the Illinois Solar Tour, will be held Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm.
