Children & Parents Delighted with Bikes for Brains

Bikes for Brains could use more donations to help pay the bills this year.

Today, dozens of children and parents picked up new bikes at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Rock Island.

Sandy Seeley-Copley, founder and organizer, says several partner agencies asked for bicycles for older children.

So Bikes for Brains bought several larger bicycles since several kids from those agencies never had a bike when they were younger.

Holly Baker, from the Moline Pilot Club, says members raise money all year long to buy and donate bike helmets for each child who receives a bike.

This year, the International Pilot Club hand-picked the helmets to provide better protection.

Walmart assembled the bikes and sold them to Bikes for Brains at a discount.

Amhof Trucking in Eldridge transported the bikes from Walmart to the King Center in Rock Island.

Other sponsors are the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education and Bike 'N' Hike.

Donations may be mailed to, or dropped off at, Bikes for Brains, care of Queen’s Parlour, 171 19th Avenue, Moline, Illinois 61265.
