Leach Lecture at Augustana

Jim Leach
University of Iowa

A former congressman who represented the Quad Cities for most of his 30 years in Washington will visit Augustana College Thursday. Jim Leach will give this year's Ellwood F. Curtis Family Lecture in Public Affairs, "What is Precedented and Un-precedented in American Politics."

A native of Davenport, he was first elected to Congress in 1977, and held the seat until 2007.

Since then, he served as the chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and most recently as interim director of the University of Iowa Museum of Art.

His lecture begins at 7 pm Thursday in Wallenberg Hall, on the Augustana campus in Rock Island.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
