A movie production house plans to make Augustana College its new home. After alumnus Estlin Feigley graduated from the Rock Island college in 1993, he founded Dreaming Tree Films in Chicago.
But Michelle O'Neill reports it's the nonprofit arm of the company, Fresh Films, that's moving to the Quad Cities.
Summary
Fresh Films invites high school students from all over the country to learn movie-making skills. And they get hands-on experience to help them decide whether to pursue careers in film. Augustana spokesman, Sam Schlouch, says it'll be great to have the Fresh Films studio on campus. "Augustana is in the process of developing what may be a film studies concentration. Estlin and Kelli may teach the courses. Whatever it is should be ready by 2017."
This summer, Fresh Films plans to hire up to 12 students as production interns and paid staff. Schlouch says several departments at Augustana may get involved in the future. Accounting, art, and history could all be areas for others to help.
IMDB, the Internet Movie Database, says Feigley, and his wife Kelli, are known for their 2013 film, The Stream, this year's, Traveling Without Moving, and a children's show, The Moochie Kalala Detectives Club.
