Students at Monmouth College now have more incentive to learn outside the classroom. This week, college officials announced a new program that guarantees an internship, study abroad, and graduation in four years. It's called U = MC², which stands for the "Monmouth College Commitment."
Earlier this year, the college guaranteed funding to students who are eligible for MAP grants, regardless of the state's budget impasse. President Clarence Wyatt thought it was time to offer students more than just financial help.
The Monmouth College Commitment is for incoming students who meet academic and social expectations. Even if a student can't finish in four years, the college will provide an additional year, tuition-free.
Wyatt says for the college, not too much will change for programs or staff.

Last year, 83 percent of Monmouth's graduating class reported participating in at least one internship.
The college also has a passport program that provides free U.S. passports to entering students.
