High school students in Iowa will experience a caucus this week. The Scott County GOP will host the Iowa Youth Caucus on Saturday as part of a state-wide effort to get students more involved in politics.

Spokesman Kyle Apple says students will be taught how a congressional caucus works and vote on current presidential candidates. They'll also learn how republicans run a caucus compared to democrats.

He says more and more high school students are interested in politics, and the mock caucuses are just one way to teach them about elections.

This is the first year Scott County Republicans have hosted a youth caucus. Polk County has held similar events for high schoolers in past years, and the Iowa Secretary of State's office created a curriculum focused on politics, including these mock caucuses.

The Iowa Youth Caucus will begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday at the Scott County Library in Eldridge.
