One year after opening an office in Iowa State University's Research Park, Deere and Company plans to expand. It's announced plans for its own building to use as a design and test lab for agricultural spraying and related technology.

Steve Carter, director of the Research Park says this will be a very important expansion of the university's relationship with Deere.

"Not only in terms of collaboration on new innovations, but also as they recruit the next generation of talent within John Deere, Iowa State is a primary partner in that. That's what a research park is all about - encouraging those collaborations."

The new building will cover 33,000 square feet and should be completed by the summer of next year (2019).

The Research Park currently hosts about 60 companies.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
