People who can't find shelter at night will have a warm place to sleep this winter. This morning, the Quad Cities Housing Cluster announced King's Harvest will open is emergency overflow shelter tomorrow. That's despite having only one volunteer to staff it.
Christie Adamson, from Humility Homes and Services, says recent donations from local groups and businesses will allow her agency to hire staff to manage the emergency shelter.
Other shelters are full, and the purpose of the King's Harvest shelter is to prevent people from freezing to death this winter.
Scott County Supervisor, Tony Knobbe, says the board quickly approved funding to help open the emergency shelter at King's Harvest. It's located on West Third Street in Davenport. And he encouraged people to ask their churches, employers, neighbors, and governments to donate money to help the homeless.
The United Way of the Quad Cities gave $30,000 to the effort. A company called Build to Suit donated $10,000, and Scott County Community Services provided $5,000.
The Quad Cities Housing Cluster is asking everyone to pitch in and help with donations of money and time to provide many services for homeless people.
More than twenty organizations are members of the coalition and will gladly accept contributions.
