Quad Citians gathered on the Centennial Bridge Sunday night to show solidarity with counter-protestors of a white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Va. over the weekend.
One person died and 19 were injured in Charlottesville when a car plowed into a crowd of activists condemning the racist demonstration.
Before the events in Charlottesville, the organization One Human Family QCA organized a No Hate Rally in response to flyers distributed in the area by the National Alliance, a neo-Nazi group that calls for the creation of an all-white society.
Rabbi Henry Karp says One Human Family QCA works to protect the diversity of the community and make sure everyone is treated fairly. He says their rally was organized to show racist views aren't supported here.
"The last thing in the world that we want is to have actual acts of hatred in this community — to have people injured, to have property destroyed," Karp says. "We want to stop it before it gets to that."
The No Hate Rally is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday in Davenport's Vander Veer Park.
