Residents of eastern Iowa can once again help victims of a weather disaster in Louisiana. The LeClaire Civic Club is collecting donations for people in and around Baton Rouge affected in recent days by torrential rain.
Spokesman and past president Dan Morrell says in 2005 the Club led a local campaign to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, and shipped four truckloads of relief supplies to New Orleans.
Recommended donations include cleaning supplies, feminine hygiene products, bottled water, and toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Morrell hopes the first load of supplies can leave for Baton Rouge within a week to ten days.

All 17 branches of Blackhawk State Bank in Iowa and Illinois will accept donations of money and other supplies, and people can bring donations to the LeClaire Civic Club.
