The Quad Cities Marathon is going green.

Today race director Joe Moreno announced this year for the first time, runners will receive a "virtual goodie bag" before the race in September, instead of a real bag stuffed with pamphlets, coupons, and other paper that they've received in past years.
Also for the first time, and also "green," the "my lap" system will be used to keep track of competitors.

And with grants from the Scott County Regional Authority and Bettendorf Rotary, children from low income families will be able to participate in this year's marathon.

The 18th annual Quad Cities Marathon will be held on September 27th, with the start and finish lines in downtown Moline. Each year the course includes several cities in both states, plus Arsenal Island.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
