As the snow melts, some levy owners from Illinois and Iowa will learn about flood risk management. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island will host an informational meeting tomorrow to explain levy safety and provide tools to help fight floods.
Rodney Delp, chief of emergency management, says the annual meeting will present the National Weather Service's Spring Flood Outlook for the Upper Mississippi River. So far, it shows there probably won't be much flooding this year.
Delp says the flood risk meeting is not mandatory, but between 50 and 60 levy owners and government employees attend the meeting each year.
The Army Corps' Rock Island District covers 78,000 square-miles across Iowa, Illinois, and neighboring states.
