Thanks to a grant from the Amy Helpenstell Foundation, WVIK in Rock Island, Illinois, Quad Cities NPR, is looking for someone to fill a six-month position in the newsroom, starting soon (usually in March).
The purpose of the grant is to help young journalists develop their skills, and get a good start on their careers.
The person hired will work with News Director Herb Trix and News Editor Michelle O'Neill writing, editing, reporting, and announcing local news, ranging from political candidates, and school boards, to economic development and art gallery openings. He or she will have daily on-air responsibilities, primarily in the afternoon and evening.
Basic radio broadcasting and reporting experience is required. Familiarity with public radio is a plus.
The pay is $10 per hour, for a 40 hour week.
