Democratic presidential candidate, Michael Bennet, shows no sign of getting tired of eating at Iowa diners.
Herb Trix reports yesterday, the U.S. Senator from Colorado met with voters at Ross' Restaurant in Bettendorf after campaigning at Muscatine's Black Pearl Cafe and Jenny's Diner in Clinton.
Bennet serves on the Senate agriculture committee, and says the trade war with China has been brutal for farmers. And if elected, he'd put an end to it.
"So that our farmers get some predictability again and so we can open up these markets. You know, we've worked so hard to open up these markets around the world. That's where all the growth is going to come from for American agriculture. And now when you see Brazil chopping down the rainforests in order to plant soybeans when we've got plenty of soybeans in Iowa, that's a real problem. And it's a result of President Trump's actions."
The democrat is serving his second term in the US Senate and says he's the opposite of Donald Trump. "I'm the only candidate in the race who's won two national elections in a swing state. No one else has. I'm not as well-known. I'm not a celebrity politician and I don't raise money as well as some of these other people do on the internet because I'm not going to make empty promises to the American people. I'm gonna tell them the truth, and I think that's how I'm going to win."
Before getting elected, Bennet served as Denver's superintendent of schools, and was Chief of Staff to former Denver Mayor, John Hickenlooper. Before that, the Yale graduate worked for an investment company.
He wrote a book published in June entitled, "The Land of Flickering Lights: Restoring America in an Age of Broken Politics."
