An experienced candidate in southeast Iowa has decided to run again for Congress. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports Republican State Senator Mariannette Miller-Meeks from Ottumwa is running again for the Second District seat in the US House.
She ran unsuccessfully three times against Democrat Dave Loebsack, but now that he's going to retire next year, it's an open seat.
So far, her only primary opponent is Bobby Schilling from LeClaire - he served one term in Congress, representing the Illinois Quad Cities and the 17th District. The only Democrat in the race now is former State Senator Rita Hart from Wheatland
Iowa's Second Congressional District covers 24 counties.
