Muscatine Residents Voting for Sculpture for New Roundabout

Voting is now open to decide which sculpture should be featured in the new traffic roundabout in downtown Muscatine. Starting with proposals from seventeen artists from around the country, the Muscatine Public Art Advisory Commission chose three finalists.

The Director of the Muscatine Art Center, and City Staff Liaison to the Public Art Advisory Commission, Melanie Alexander, says the roundabout was the clear location choice.

"The roundabout at Mulberry and Second street is the gateway to the downtown which is where so many of our community activities take place, either in the downtown or right along there on the riverfront."

The finalists worked on their proposals last summer, and residents of Muscatine are invited to vote online or in person for their favorite, until January 10th.

The Commission says each artist found inspiration from Muscatine's relationship with the Mississippi River, with two of the artists referencing Mark Twain.

This project is being sponsored by the Muscatine Art Center.

In-person voting is at the Musser Public Library, the Muscatine Art Center, and Sunrise Galleries. Online, go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HSCR6SF.
