Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse will celebrate its 40th season with more singing, dancing and drama. Subscribers to the dinner theater in downtown Rock Island attended a brunch Tuesday morning for an announcement of what shows they'll get to see next season.
Support from Circa '21 fans means a lot to founder Denny Hitchcock. Back in the 1970s when he was planning to open, many people told him he was crazy. And he looked for financing at five banks before finding one that would take him seriously.
During its 40-year run, Circa '21 has produced more than 250 shows. The musical "Holly Jolly Christmas" will kick off the 40th anniversary season in November.
The other shows are "Ghost: The Musical," "The Music Man," "Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook," "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," and "Ring of Fire."
Before the first show, the theater will get a slight makeover with new carpeting, new chairs and new paint for the exterior.
