A tribute to a long-time and popular member of the faculty will be unveiled Wednesday night at Scott Community College. Bruce Carter taught art at the college in Bettendorf for 16 years until his death in 2014 at the age of 66.

Rob Lipnick, art instructor and coordinator of the Humanities Department, says Stacey Houk was the lead artist on the ceramic mural project, with help from students and other faculty.
Funding for the project was provided by Quad City Arts from its Arts Dollars program.

A reception will be held Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, with unveiling of the mural at 6:45.
An exhibit of Carter's works is currently on display in the college's library.

Bruce Carter was also the host of the program "Art Talks" on WVIK that ran for more than 21 years.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
