What makes the upper Mississippi River Valley different from the rest of the Midwest ? That's the focus of a documentary, "Mysteries of the Driftless," that'll be shown this weekend during the 11th annual Environmental Film Fest at Augustana College.

Herb Trix reports.
(The 11th Annual Environmental Film Fest will be held at Augustana College on Saturday (3/19) in the Olin Center, with doors opening at 10:30 am. The films begin at 11. Admission is free and it's sponsored by the Eagle View Group of the Sierra Club, the college, and Radish Magazine.)

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
