Nova Singers

Nova Singers will work with a bluegrass group to teach children about music. Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Nova Singers and Monroe Crossing will offer free tickets and educational programs for low-income kids in the Quad Cities area.

A couple of February concerts will be the first time the 20-member chamber choir will perform with a bluegrass group. Monroe Crossing is a quintet from Minneapolis.

Nova Singers spokeswoman Darla Krejci says the $10,000 grant is specifically for collaborating with Monroe Crossing.

Members of Monroe Crossing will visit schools throughout the Quad Cities and surrounding area to teach students about bluegrass music.

The grant is the largest Nova Singers has ever received. Krejci says it will allow the group to offer free tickets to the elderly, low-income residents, and minorities for its performances with Monroe Crossing in February.
