River Bandits Will Play at the Field of Dreams

Quad Cities River Bandits

This summer, the Quad Cities River Bandits will play at the Field of Dreams ballpark near Dyersville. With the Cedar Rapids Kernels, they'll be the first minor league teams to play at the famous movie site in eastern Iowa, on August 9th.

And similar to last year's major league game between the Yankees and White Sox, they'll wear "throw-back jerseys." The River Bandits will become the Davenport Blue Sox, their name during several seasons in the early 1900's. The Kernels will become the Cedar Rapids Bunnies - their name from 1904 to 1932.

Ticket information will be available at a later date.

Two days after their game, the Chicago Cubs will play the Cincinnati Reds in the second major league game at the Field of Dreams.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois. While a graduate student in the Public Affairs Reporting Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield (then known as Sangamon State University), he got his first taste of public radio, covering Illinois state government for WUIS. Here in the Quad Cities, Herb worked for WHBF Radio before coming to WVIK in 1987. Herb also produces the weekly public affairs feature Midwest Week – covering the news behind the news by interviewing reporters about the stories they cover.
