During his first year in the Quad Cities, Chris Widger led the team to the best record in the High-A Central League and the league championship.
The River Bandits also ended the season with a winning record against all of the other teams in their division, and never lost a series at home.
Widger played 12 seasons in the major leagues including a stint with the Chicago White Sox when they won the World Series in 2005. He also played for the Mariners, Expos, Yankees, Cardinals, and Orioles.
