Community leaders in the Quad Cities are worried about Western Illinois University and its future plans for the campus in Moline.

Mayor Stephanie Acri says she's learned from meetings with university leaders of their ambitious plans to raise enrollment, but she thinks those plans are focused on the main campus in Macomb.

"When I look at the strategy I see some components of some kind of feeder courses for finishing at Macomb and then some adult courses, but that's not our vision, that's not our vision for that campus."

A Western Illinois University professor is working to commemorate the 1919 Chicago Race Riot through art.

During a trip to Germany, WIU Professor Peter Cole says he was inspired by the country's open dialogue with its own genocidal history. He was particularly struck by sidewalk plaques that enshrined the names of Holocaust victims. 

Cole says the Chicago Race Riot Commemoration Project aims to acknowledge the city's racist history while uplifting local artists.

Western Illinois University's search for a new president continues. Tomorrow, The University Board of Trustees will interview six finalists virtually, including current WIU Interim President Martin Abraham.

Residents of Rock Island County will have more time for early voting.

With help from a lab in Kansas City, Western Illinois University will test everyone on both campuses for COVID-19.

To help make Western Illinois University safe for the fall semester, students in the Department of Communications have launched a social media campaign. Their goal is to normalize wearing masks, so that when students return for classes, they'll feel more comfortable wearing them.

WIU Cancels Classes

Following the lead of several other public universities in the state, Western Illinois University will cancel all classes next week - March 16th through the 20th.


Nearly three years after it opened, the Bix Beiderbecke Museum and Archive in Davenport has its first director. Nathan Kraft began working, on a part-time basis, earlier this month.
