Tammy Weikert has a new part-time "job." The Rock Island County Circuit Clerk has been appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court's Commission on Access to Justice. 

Biss for Governor

One of the many democratic candidates for governor of Illinois will come to the Quad Cities this weekend. Saturday State Senator Daniel Biss from Evanston will meet with fellow democrats from Rock Island County.

Thanks to the voters, the United Township High School District will begin receiving some new revenue later this year. And planning is underway on how to spend proceeds from the local option sales tax.

"This is the brightest day for Rock Island County that we have seen in years." That's what Chief Judge Walter Braud said this afternoon, as he and county officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new annex to the justice center.

A long career in local government and supervising elections is about to end. Wednesday Rock Island County Chief Deputy Clerk John Brown announced his retirement, effective on Friday.

Republicans in Rock Island County have a new leader. Thursday night, members of the central committee elected Mike Steffen to replace outgoing county chair Bill Bloom.

Rock Island County is back online after a malfunction by some old equipment took down its website.

Rock Island County's main computer has crashed. County Administrator Dave Ross says the main server failed yesterday, and it'll take a few days to replace it. Ross says the old equipment needs to be replaced and is in the county's capital improvement plan. But that's on hold.

The IT staff told Ross the server is permanently down, and the Rock Island County website is not available. He says employees are working to get it back up as quickly as possible.

This week, construction workers will start getting ready to build an annex to the Rock Island County Justice Center.
