People who want to save the Rock Island County courthouse are offering free beer to anyone who can change their minds. The historic building in the Quad Cities could be demolished depending on a lawsuit.

Michelle O'Neill reports this morning in downtown Rock Island and later in downtown Moline, two advocates for saving the 120-year-old building started a campaign called, "Change My Mind." 

Rock Island County

An Interim State's Attorney may soon be appointed for Rock Island County. Tuesday County Board Chairman Richard Brunk announced his choice of Dora Villarreal to replace John McGehee who started working as a circuit judge last month. 


Hoping to keep the issue alive, some members of the Rock Island County Board want to look at ways to reduce the size of the board. On Wednesday, Republican board members will organize the Minority Caucus Downsizing Reapportionment Task Force.


Rock Island County Circuit Chief Judge Walter Braud has ordered the Rock Island County Courthouse be demolished.

Rock Island County Board Votes To Demolish Courthouse

The Rock Island County Board has decided to demolish the county courthouse. The board voted 16-6 on Tuesday night to give the deed to the Public Building Commission. The commission is expected to use $1.6 million to tear down the courthouse and replace it with green space. The funds are part of the $28 million cost of building a new annex to the Justice Center.


A national search for a new Rock Island County administrator is nearly over. The county board may decide Wednesday night to hire James Snider from Freeport, Illinois.

A Quad Cities area man has joined a possible rebellion within the Illinois republican party. State Representative Jeanne Ives from Wheaton might challenge Governor Bruce Rauner in next year's primary, and she's chosen as her lieutenant governor running mate, Rich Morthland.


Rock Island County will soon start looking for a new county administrator. One month after notifying the county board that he would probably be leaving, Dave Ross has accepted a similar position in Florida.

RI County Forest Preserve District

Work could begin soon on major improvements at the Loud Thunder Forest Preserve in Rock Island County.  Tuesday night, the Forest Preserve Commission, made up of all the members of the county board, approved borrowing 4.5 million dollars.

John Brown Retires

A long career in local government and supervising elections is about to end. Wednesday Rock Island County Chief Deputy Clerk John Brown announced his retirement, effective on Friday.
